Coast Guard searching overnight for Bridge City man after his boat collided with a tugboat Sunday

KFDM News - We have an update to a boating collision involving two vessels.

The Coast Guard has released the name of a man missing in waters near Goat Island in Orange County.

The Coast Guard and other first responders are still searching tonight for 56-year-old John Tran of Bridge City.

He went missing in the waters after his boat collided with a tugboat vessel.

Tran was coming from Sabine Lake and crossing into the intracoastal waterway when he collided with a tugboat pulling barges.

Investigators tell KFDM News they believe the smaller boat is a crabbing vessel.

First responders say they will continue searching for Tran Sunday night.

INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY - First responders from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies, are searching the Intracoastal Waterway following a collision between a tugboat and a smaller boat Sunday afternoon.

The vessels collided on the Orange County side of the waterway near Goat Island.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard tells KFDM News the person in the smaller boat was coming from Sabine Lake and crossing into the Intracoastal Waterway when it collided with a tugboat pulling barges.

Investigators tell KFDM News they believe the smaller boat is a crabbing vessel. Searchers are trying to find the person who was in the smaller boat.
