Average gasoline price down in Beaumont

BEAUMONT - The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has dropped two cents in Beaumont, according to AAA Texas.

The average is $3.36. It was $3.52 at this time last year. The record high average in Beaumont was $4 a gallon in July 2008.

IRVING (From AAA Texas) - Texas drivers are now paying an average of $3.42 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.  That price is one cent more than last week and 13 cents less than one year ago.  The average in the Lone Star State is also 11 cents less than the national average of $3.53.  Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas and Fort Worth are paying the most at $3.48, and drivers in El Paso are paying the least at $3.33.

Drivers across the country continue to enjoy discounted pump prices compared to a year ago.  Much like the national average, state prices have been steady over the last week.  The vast majority of states have a lower average today than one week ago, but the declines have been limited.

Trouble in Egypt, Libya and Syria continue to be the primary factors sustaining global oil prices.  Escalating violence in these countries continues to raise concerns that unrest could spread to other areas in the Middle East and North Africa and has subsequently sustained seasonally-high crude oil prices.

Texans are now paying about $48 to fill up the typical 14-gallon size fuel tank, said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe.  People who plan to travel for the Labor Day holiday next week should make sure their cars and trucks are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations before hitting the roads.
