Attorney releases statement on behalf of Mike Neil
BEAUMONT - Statement from David Vann deCordova Jr./attorney representing BISD trustee Mike Neil:
"Jessie Haynes, Special Assistant to the BISD Superintendent, released yesterday her detailed and highly specific version of events that she claims occurred at the July 29, 2013 BISD Board Meeting. The media has given it significant coverage.
Although Ms. Haynes was certainly free to make her detailed statement, because of the ongoing criminal investigation, it would not be in the best interests of my client Mike Neil to do the same. I think Ms. Hayness statement damages her credibility beyond repair.
I can confidently say, however, that Ms. Haynes - a claimed public relations expert apparently spent considerable time on administrative leave honing her PR skills. Her statement is nothing but a clearly calculated attempt to paint a grossly inaccurate misleading and biased record of what truly transpired at the meeting. This includes her conduct blocking the school hallway door, her initial physical assault of Mike in an attempt to keep him from entering the door, and her later wholly unprovoked assault of Mike as he merely walked down the hallway. As any reasonable person viewing the video can confirm, Ms. Haynes is the wrongdoer in this matter. However, Ms. Haynes apparently wishes to continue on her quest to incite racial hatred in this community and divide it by whatever means, honest or not.
Also, concerning the Thursday justice rally planned for Ms. Haynes, we are saddened but not surprised that some folks have blindly bought into Ms. Haynes spin and dishonest version of the events. I did not mention the Beaumont NAACP as the organizer because I can find no government record substantiating that the organization even exists. Mike and I certainly will not attend an event held merely to stoke racial tension and discord, or to feed the personal agenda of a few self-appointed local leaders.
There are many legitimate needs for justice in our community, and I think he folks holding the rally could better serve our community by directing their attention to these real issues, including BISD.
That said, Mike and I are confident that the police and justice system will operate in an unbiased manner fairly and objectively and see this matter through to its just and proper conclusion."
