Woman fatally shot at Houston-area high school

KATY, Texas (AP) -- Police say the woman gunned down outside a suburban Houston high school by her estranged husband was trying to end the relationship and had recently moved out of their home.

Valerie Robinson was fatally shot Friday morning as she arrived for work in the cafeteria at Tompkins High School in Katy, west of Houston. Superintendent Alton Frailey said Robinson was a longtime employee of the district.

A witness to the shooting helped authorities trace the suspect to a home in Brookshire, just west of Katy. After a 3 1/2-hour standoff, a police tactical team entered the home and found 54-year-old Gregory Robinson dead of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Brookshire police Chief Brandal Jackson says the couple had a history of domestic violence.
