Residents don't want apartment complex nearby

ORANGE - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A neighborhood in Orange is causing quite the stir over a proposed housing complex planned for a nearby location.

The Housing Authority in Orange is planning to construct a 70unit, multi-family apartment complex across the way from Hillbrook Estates in Orange, however, not all of the residents are happy with that plan.

There's going to be extra traffic, said June Sonnier. There's people walking up and down the street. We have people knocking on our doors now for money, gas, as it is. And it's just going to make it worse.

Other concerns from neighbors also included a decrease in property rates, however not all of the residents are against the housing complex.

It might as well be here as opposed to anywhere else, said Lubertha Lindsey. I find no problems with it.

City council ultimately decided not to support the project, however, that does not necessarily halt construction.

The Housing Authority secured funding from Hurricane Ike recovery. The design phase is already halfway complete.
