KFDM News learns former state representative Mike Hamilton running for Orange County Judge
ORANGE COUNTY - by Scott Lawrence
KFDM News has learned a former longtime state representative from Southeast Texas is planning to run for Orange County Judge.
KFDM News was there when Mike Hamilton made the announcement Tuesday night during a monthly meeting of the Orange County Republican Party.
Hamilton began serving in the Texas legislature in 2003. He lost to James White in the Republican Primary last year.
Hamilton told KFDM he'd thought about running for Orange County Judge even before incumbent Carl Thibodeaux announced earlier this month he wouldn't file for re-election. Thibodeaux has served five terms.
Hamilton owns a restaurant in Beaumont and says his first priority is improving the economy in Orange County.
"Orange County is deep in debt and it needs some guidance," Hamilton told KFDM News at Tuesday night's meeting. "And I want to give the people and opportunity to either decide 'do you want to go down he same route that we're doing or do you want to change, do you want something new, something exciting?'" And I want to do new and exciting things, get Orange County back to the prime that it used to be."
Former Orange County Sheriff Mike White and Commissioner John Dubose have also announced plans to run for Orange County Judge.
The primaries are March 4 of next year. The General Election is in November.
