Average gasoline price drops 4 cents in Beaumont

BEAUMONT - The average price for one gallon of unleaded gasoline dropped four cents in Beaumont during the past week, according to AAA Texas.

The average was $3.14. It was $3.52 at this time last year. The record high in Beaumont was $4 a gallon in July 2008.

Irving, TX (From AAA Texas) - The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is now $3.16, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents less than last week and 38 cents less than one year ago. The average in the Lone Star State is also 22 cents less than the national average of $3.38. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Amarillo and Austin are paying the most at $3.20, and drivers in Fort Worth are paying the least at $3.11.

The most expensive gasoline in the nation can be found in Hawaii at $4.25 and the highest in the continental U.S. is in California at $3.89 per gallon. The lowest pump price in the nation is in South Carolina at $3.09.

Sufficient gas supplies, a low demand for fuel and the move to cheaper winter-blend gasoline production are the reasons for the gas price drops in Texas and across the country. Barring any hurricanes or other unexpected disruption to gasoline production and distribution, many analysts say retail prices will likely continue to go down in the coming months.

"Were hopeful drivers will benefit from these lower gas prices during road trips this fall," said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. "Currently drivers are paying about $44 to fill up a 14-gallon size fuel tank, which is about six dollars less per tank than this time last year."
