Beaumont animal services retains custody of neglected pit bull
BEAUMONT - Beaumont Animal Services officers won a civil seizure hearing Thursday, retaining custody of a neglected and malnourished pit bull, according to a press release.
The pit bull was seized during an animal cruelty investigation Oct. 3 at a residence in the 1900 block of Tulane in Beaumont's north end.
The pit bull was one of four dogs that had originally been housed there and when officers searched the residence they seized the black and white female pit bull that was found locked inside a bedroom of the house.
One other dog was found deceased in the bathroom.
Officers said dog feces could be found around the house and the deceased dog had been dead long enough that it had decomposed to the point that skeletal remains were all that was left of it.
Both Prosecutor Ann Maness and Judge Beaulieu both stated that "this is one of the most horrible cases of animal neglect" that they had seen.
Animal Services officers are now looking at possible criminal charges in the case for animal cruelty, according to the release.
The female pit bull, named Lady, will be held at Animal Services for 10 days pending an appeal and will then be put up for adoption.
For information on how you could adopt her, please contact Animal Services.
