Man arrested and charged after Calcasieu Parish deputies say he pointed gun at them
LAKE CHARLES - A man has been arrested and charged after Calcasieu Parish deputies say he pointed a gun at them.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a disturbance between neighbors around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday on Copperleaf Drive in Lake Charles, according to a news release.
When deputies arrived on the scene they learned that 67-year-old Carroll J. Comeaux directed racial slurs and curse words at his neighbor, who was out working in his yard, and then pointed a shotgun at him, the release stated.
Deputies attempted to make contact with Comeaux at his residence but got no response, they went around the house and looked into a window and observed him sitting at a dining table, according to the news release.
Comeaux got up from the chair and grabbed a shotgun and a spotlight and as deputies continued to identify themselves and ordered him to drop his weapon, he ignored their loud verbal demands and came to the front door holding the spotlight and the shotgun, the release stated.
He exited the front door and pointed the shotgun in the direction of the deputies, the release stated.
Deputies fired at Comeaux, striking him twice, according to the news release.
He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and was admitted for treatment for his injuries, the release stated.
Comeaux was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm, the release stated.
He remains in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and will be booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center upon his release from the hospital and bond is pending, the release stated.
The Louisiana State Police is handling the investigation of the shooting suspect by the deputies.
