Now, in honor of the late coach Bum Phillips, Mid-county Madness will now include the Bum Phillips Bowl.

The game played on Friday night's will be in honor of the legendary Southeast Texas coach and will include a trophy that will be awarded to the winning team next year.

Phillips coached on both sides of Mid-County Madness, first at Nederland in the late '40s and early 50's. He then went to PN-G in 1963 and 1964.

Port Arthur news sports editor Bob West helped make the Bum Phillips Bowl become a reality.
