Jasper Council names new police chief

JASPER - KFDM News has learned the Jasper City Council has named Aaron Tyksinski the town's new police chief.

Picture of Tyksinski on left following decision to name him Jasper Police Chief.

Tyksinski had been the Chief Deputy in the Ft. Bend County Precinct 3 Constable's Office.

He replaces Rodney Pearson. Council fired Pearson in June of last year. He was the town's first black police chief. Some members of council criticized his job performance.

The job has remained open since council fired Pearson.

More than 40 people applied for the job through a company that screened the applicants for Jasper.

Jasper Mayor Mike Lout tells KFDM News the decision came down to Tyksinski and another man.

Tyksinski's first day on the job is October 28th. He plans to use social media to remain connected to the community.
