Taking care of animals during cold weather

It's important to make sure you keep your pets are kept safe and warm from the harsh cold.

KFDM News visited with the Humane Society of Southeast Texas Monday and they told us outdoor elements such as wind and precipitation can lead to illness, hypothermia and death among animals.

Dogs and cats are prone to frostbite on their feet, ears and tails and can suffer within a matter of minutes.

The Humane Society says if you keep your pet outdoors you need to bring them in during these extreme temperatures.

If you see an animal outside shivering and braving the cold, become that animal's advocate. Speak with the owner first and if needed, contact your local animal shelter.
