Hundreds attend funeral of Lumberton sisters killed in collision

HARDIN COUNTY - Hundreds of people, including family, friends, students and staff, attended the funeral of two Lumberton sisters killed in a collision February 3.

Connely Burns, 20, and Courtney Sterling, 15, died in the crash near the intersection of Highway 96 and 69. Connely's unborn son also died. He was due in March. Their mother, Dawn Sterling, remains in ICU.  A video feed from Crestwood Baptist Church to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth enabled Dawn Sterling and her husband to watch the funeral service.


Crystal Boyett, 40, of Kirbyville, is jailed on three counts of manslaughter for crashing into the family's SUV. Troopers say she was traveling 150 miles an hour in Jasper County shortly before the crash. Lumberton Police say she was clocked at 120 miles an hour not long before the collision.
