Langston Adams sworn in as interim judge of County Court at Law Number 3
JEFFERSON COUNTY - A longtime attorney in Southeast Texas is now serving as judge of a court presided over for decades by a man he called a friend and mentor.
Langston Adams took the oath of office Friday morning as judge of County Court at Law Number 3 in Jefferson County.
The Port Arthur attorney took the oath in the jury empaneling room with a large crowd of family and friends watching.
John Paul Davis had served as judge of the court for more than 20 years.
He died February 10. Davis wasn't seeking re-election.
"It's an extreme honor to follow behind my friend, and I think Judge Davis, looking down from heaven, would be proud today," said Judge Adams.
Adams said Davis was an "amazing man" and Adams wants to "bring the same fairness and integrity that Judge John Paul Davis brought to that very court."
Adams said "it's an absolute great honor to serve the citizens of Jefferson County."
Three Democrats and one Republican are running for the position.
Adams will serve until one of them takes over following the November general election.
