Shots fired during holdup, restaurant customers forced to ground

Two masked men held up the popular House of Pies restaurant on Westheimer Road late Thursday, Houston police said.
The robbery was reported around 9:45 p.m. near Briar Ridge, a few miles west of the Galleria.
Witnesses said two armed men wearing ski masks came into the restaurant and forced everyone onto the floor. They demanded money and cell phones. They then took cash from the register and shot several rounds into the ceiling, police said.
"The biggest thing we were concerned about was what kind of pie to order, and then the next thing you know it's a gunshot and someone screaming 'get on the floor," one witness told KHOU 11 News.
There were about 75 people inside the packed restaurant at the time, but no injuries were reported.
"A guy came by, kicked us, kicked me, and said 'where's your money?,'" another witness said. "I threw them in the way, and waved that they were there -- scary."
A woman near the front door managed to flag down a passing officer, and the suspects fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to catch one of the men nearby, but the other one got away.
Police said they recovered a backpack that the suspects threw when they were running. Inside, HPD officers found about a dozen cell phones and a purse.
A detailed description of the suspect that got away was not available.
