$100,000 in gift cards distributed to Harvey victims
A California man who runs a non-profit organization called can-do.org distributed $100,000 in Lowe's gift cards to Southeast Texans devastated by Tropical Storm Harvey seven months ago.
Eric Klein and his group were back in Rose City, handed out the cards they purchased with money raised through social media.
125 families were pre-approved for the cards, with each family receiving a card worth about $900.
Klein has been a vocal critic of relief efforts, especially for small towns like Rose City where the need is great.
"We're six months into this, six months past this," said Klein. "We got hurricane season coming back around the corner. and again, the biggest issue that we find in these situations is the lack of accountability. You know, that's the biggest issue is that these people, that money is their money, the money that was donated belongs to these people."
