Fire destroys Beaumont duplex, leaving 12 displaced
Twelve people are displaced after a house fire Tuesday morning on Liberty Avenue in Beaumont.
Joe Carrington was in his bedroom when he woke up to smoke filling up the room.
"I thought it was a candle or something and I looked and saw a fire and I told my wife, wake up, wake up there's a fire in the house," says Carrington. "By the time I said fire in the house the whole side of the wall blazed up.
The duplex had 12 residents. Three were on Carrington's side of the duplex, nine lived in the other side. Investigators say everyone was able to make it out safely.
"I lost all my money, all my keys to my car, it burnt up my other car and all my food," says Carrington. "I'm homeless."
Investigators say the cause of the fire was faulty wiring.
