An 18-wheeler driver escaped his truck just before it caught fire Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle hit it head-on in Vidor.

The driver had minor injuries and was treated at the scene and the other driver was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont for his injuries, according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.

Around 1:45 p.m., a Vidor PD officer saw a vehicle swerving. It eventually drifted into oncoming traffic on Highway 12 near Linscomb Road when it struck the 18-wheeler.

The 18-wheeler driver narrowly escaped the fire before the truck became fully engulfed.
