Babysitter playing Nintendo blamed in the death of one-year-old girl

Troy Cheek

Troy Cheek, 19, of Beaumont, was charged with injury to a child causing bodily harm, after the one year old he was babysitting fell off a bed March 7 in an apartment.

Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham says Cheek noticed the baby was getting close to the edge, but Cheek didn't move her off, deciding instead to turn his attention back to the video games he was playing.

"A Nintendo game was more important than the safety of the baby," says Wortham. "Absolutely the wrong thing to do."

KFDM/Fox 4's Chris Mullooly has the full report.
