Beaumont man receives life sentence in fatal shooting of convenience store owner
A Beaumont man will begin a life sentence after a Jefferson County jury found him guilty of capital murder.
Chandler Ventress has been convicted in the killing of Beaumont convenience store owner Mettha Kuruppu.
Investigators say Ventress shot and killed Kuruppu back in 2015 at Kuruppu's Pick N Shop convenience store.
The shooting was caught on surveillance video.
Store owner Mettha Kuruppu was working behind the counter when two men entered the store to rob him.
Investigators testified about their interview with Ventress the day he turned himself in. They say Ventress admitted to the murder.
Ventress will be transferred to state prison to serve a life sentence.
Another man, Sean Johnson, is also facing a capital murder charge.
Sean Johnson's trial will begin later in October.
