BISD Mostyn Progam sends special needs students on shopping spree
Students across Jefferson county were sent on a Walmart shopping spree. Around 170 kids received a $50 gift card to spend, and instructed to use every penny.
The Mostyn Moreno Educational Foundation brought smiles to the faces of many BISD students enrolled in the special needs Academics for Life Program. This program is part of the Christmas Lights Program.
“I just love helping these kids… they deserve it.”
President of student council, Esteban Lopez told me. A fifth grader of Sally Curtis Elementary. He and four other members of the council supported their classmates by helping them pick out each toy.
The program is not only about shopping, but to teach life skills.
“They’re allowed to shop… but they learn the responsibility to monitor they’re spending.”
One official told me.
1,250 kids will participate in this program by the end of the week.
