BISD to expand Beaumont United cafeteria
Beaumont ISD Administrators approved a contract to expand the cafeteria at the new Beaumont United High School.
Students say the overcrowded cafeteria made lunch time a problem, and the new expansion will give ample room, while also reducing the amount of lunch breaks from four to three.
This would give students an estimated hour more time in the classroom.
"I feel that it pulls our system away from monitor instruction," says United Principal Ron Jackson.
One Beaumont ISD parent spoke at the meeting held Thursday afternoon, to voice his concern at the cafeteria. He said the cafeteria can feel like a 'jail', with the little sunlight entering from windows, which could play a part in fights he's seen in the cafeteria on social media.
"The only thing I care about is our children have a good place to go and learn and get an education and can matriculate throughout high school," says Michael Collins.
