BPD officer on road to recovery after battling rare form of cancer

BPD Ofc. Rector is on road to recovery after battling a rare form of cancer.

A Beaumont police motorcycle officer is on the road to recovery after facing a four month battle with a rare form of cancer.

Ofc. Bobby Rector is back at work on light duty.

His type of cancer attacks the head and neck, but the 18-year police veteran battled the aggressive disease as bravely as he's served and protected the community.

Ofc. Rector underwent seven weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.

Ofc. Rector praised the support of his family, his fellow officers and the community as he battled the disease.

The support is not surprising.

Through the years, Ofc. Rector has been more than a public servant.

He's a people person who says he never meets a stranger.

A benefit concert and BBQ dinner is set for Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the IBEW Hall to raise money to help Ofc. Rector and his family with mounting medical expenses. The tickets are $20. You can make reservations by calling 880-1092 or simply show up to show your support.

KFDM/Fox 4's Angel San Juan has the report.
