Hardin County man killed by apparent lightning strike; father recovering from injuries

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Honey Island man who was killed by an apparent lightning strike this afternoon, according to Sheriff Mark Davis.

The Kountze Fire Department and Acadian EMS responded to a location off Starlight Road in Honey Island at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. Authorities discovered the body of 22-year Sebastian Ramos, who was unresponsive. CPR was initiated and he was transferred via ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He died at the hospital.

The victim's father, 57-year-old Raul Ramos, was transported via private vehicle to the hospital. He suffered from second degree burns.

Ramos has since been transferred from St. Elizabeth in Beaumont to a Galveston hospital for treatment.

According to the investigation, the father and son were standing close to one another while repairing some cattle fencing at the location when the lightning strike occurred. A nearby cow was also knocked to the ground during the strike.
