Buna man involved in fatal crash; best friend says he will be missed by entire town

Colt Kirkendall, 23, left a lasting impression on those close to him in his hometown of Buna.

"Everyone knew Colt," said Micah Unruh, his best friend. "Everyone knew who he was. That's just who he was. Everyone loved him. Everyone respected him."

According to the DPS, Kirkendall was traveling north on US 96 in Hardin County Sunday night. Investigators say a vehicle going the wrong way collided head on with Kirkendall's vehicle. He died at the scene.

"Just immediately felt so terrible for the rest of his friends and all of his family," said Unruh. "I know it's hurting a lot of people. It's hurting everybody. "

Unruh says Kirkendall was a man who was always willing to help others and that drew him into nursing.

"He always talked about it," said Unruh. "He always wanted to go get his doctorate and he stuck with it, and he was going to get it. He was working hard.

Kirkendall's family say he was a good kid. Unruh says the loss is tragic and the community will miss him deeply.

"So many people are going to be hurting from this. The whole town of Buna is going to be hurting from it," Unruh said.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Baptist Hospital and treated for his injuries.
