EXCLUSIVE-BPD: Prostitution investigation at local "spa"
Multiple agencies are trying to get to the bottom of what they suspect is prostitution happening at a spa in Beaumont.
Beaumont Police they have been surveilling the "Tulip Spa," located in the 3300 block of Laurel, for more than a year.
Thursday, officers executed an "evidentiary warrant" at that location. They pulled phone records and video from the business.
If you have any information on the investigation, contact Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS.
There are two major questions officers are trying to answer-- whether there is prostitution going on at the spa, and whether the women there are willing participants, or victims of human trafficking.
"We are investigating this, and if you came here, shame on you," says Sgt. Cody Guedry with the Beaumont Police Department.
Guedry says the spa doesn't have the normal certifications that a spa should have.
"We believe it's a front for sex and we want to make sure we get this shutdown," he says. "We just want people to understand we're working out here and we want to squash this and make sure it doesn't happen in our area."
Throughout the year that officers have been surveilling the business, they have observed primarily male clients leaving within minutes of entering, foil over the windows, and only some people allowed inside.
Investigators have interviewed some patrons, and spent Thursday interviewing the women inside.
Officers say if you went there within the past year, you're on camera.
"At this point we're trying to find out exactly what they were doing inside," says Guedry. "Because it wasn't giving massages."
No charges have been filed at this point.
Investigators say they are also investigating prostitution possibly taking place in other areas of Beaumont.
