Family remembers Kountze man killed by lightning as kind, giving and hardworking

Sebastian Ramos was just 22 when his life was suddenly cut short.

Killed on Tuesday when he was struck by lightning while repairing a cattle fence with his father, Raul Ramos, 57.

Sebastian and Raul's family says they're both hardworking, but losing his youngest son has been tough on Raul.

"My dad, you know it's hard for him to see his youngest son gone," said Adan Ramos, Sebastian's brother and Raul's son.

"A father always think he's going to go first, before their kids."

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office says it received at call around 2 p.m., but Sebastian was unresponsive.

He and Raul where both taken to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, but Raul was later transferred to a Galveston hospital to recover from 2nd degree burns.

Now, Adan says their family will mourn losing Sebastian, while trying to keep a positive spirit for Raul.

But he says they're understanding if it was Sebastian's time to go.

"But I think he's in a better place, and if the Lord called him, then it was his time," Adan said. "It's a shame it was such a short time, but he made it count, he made it worth it."
