Ft. Polk soldier from Tyler killed in Iraq

By Steve W Stewart/KJAS - Officials at Fort Polk announced on Tuesday that a soldier from Tyler who was a member of the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division was killed in Iraq over the weekend.

Fort Polk officials say Specialist Alexander W. Missildine, 20, died on Sunday in Ninawa Province in far northern Iraq. Mosul is the state capitol.

According to Fort Polk, Missildine was a motor transport operator and he was driving in a convoy when an improvised explosive device detonated.

Missildine joined the Army in July 2015 and arrived at Fort Polk five months later in December 2015. He deployed with his unit to Iraq less than a month ago
