Gov. Abbott proposes budget increase for mental health services in schools
Gov. Greg Abbott has asked lawmakers to consider a $20 million dollar budget increase for mental health services in schools.
The funding would allow schools to hire more counselors, social workers. It would also provide training for teachers and staff.
Mental health screenings would allow staff to identify students with mental illness and provide them with help.
The proposal is a part of the School and Firearm Safety Action Plan to help provide solutions that improve safety and security in schools.
