The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department were busy early Friday morning battling a house fire, and they had to tread a flooded road to reach it. The call came out shortly before daybreak on Rayburn 100 Road, which is off of Lakeland Road in far north Jasper County.

The first firefighter on the scene reported that a mobile home was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had already spread to a nearby home as well.

A neighbor said that no one was in either one of the homes when the fire broke out and that no one was injured in the fire. He said the fire was discovered shortly after 5:00 when he and others in the neighborhood heard and loud boom and looked out to see flames coming from the home which was reportedly owned by Scott Cutfield of Lumberton.

The adjacent home that was destroyed by fire was reportedly owned by someone in the Hampshire-Fannett Area, south of Beaumont.

Firefighters said the road had about a foot of water covering it due to the high level of Lake Sam Rayburn.

There’s no word on what may have caused the fire, and no injuries were reported.
