Beaumont man, initially reported dead by DPS, was actually resuscitated

One person killed in early morning accident on Hwy 105.

The 19-year-old Beaumont man who the Texas Department of Public Safety initially declared dead was actually resuscitated at the hospital, DPS said Monday afternoon in a news release.

DPS responded to a single car crash on Highway 105 near Reines Road in Bevil Oaks around 5 a.m.

The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck had been traveling west on 105 when he veered across the eastbound land and off the road, according to DPS.

He was unresponsive at the scene, where officers conducted CPR. The resuscitation efforts continued until medical personnel arrived and at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont.

DPS says the man was resuscitated at the hospital and rushed into emergency surgery. DPS had reported Monday morning that the driver died, but we learned in the afternoon that this information was inaccurate.

A passenger was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
