I-10 East, West reopen following fatal crash, several other crashes
I-10 East and West reopened at about 8 p.m. in Jefferson County following a series of accidents, including a fatality crash at 11 a.m. , according to the Jeff. County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Tyler Hryhorchuk, 20, of Orange, struck the back of an 18 wheeler that had stopped in the inside lane of I-10 West near Highway 365, close to Gator Country, at about 11 a.m. Hryhorchuk's pickup truck rolled several times and he died at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate the driver of a 2011 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 followed by Hryhorchuk in a 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. For an unknown reason, the driver of the 18-wheeler stopped in the inside traffic lane and was rear-ended by the Toyota pickup truck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Hryhorchuck was ejected.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 55-year-old man from Florida, was not injured in the crash.
Later this afternoon, the driver of an 18 wheeler carrying hazardous materials, a chemical, was attempting to use an emergency crossover when his vehicle overturned on I-10 East near the Goodyear plant.
Workers removed the chemical and removed the tanker from the highway.
