The man who died in an accident at a silo from a beleaguered wood pellet company operating at the Port of Port Arthur is 42-year-old Jesus Cuevas, of Corrigan.

Cuevas was killed Friday morning operating a skid-steer loader when a large amount of material fell on him, according to a statement released Monday by German Pellets Texas, which runs the facility at the Port of Port Arthur.

German Pellets has faced scrutiny for several months because of a silo that burned for several weeks in the spring. It led to the city of Port Arthur taking legal action against the company.

German Pellets said in a written statement Monday it s "deeply saddened by this loss. His family has been notified and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

"We have launched an internal investigation and are cooperating with all appropriate authorities."

Cuevas was survived by his wife, two sons and daughter.
