New businesses off Dowlen Road becoming popular attraction

Near Parkdale Mall, new businesses are popping up.

New restaurants off Dowlen Road are attracting residents who are taking notice.

"Beaumont's been trying to grow for such a long time, and I think the community will rally around new businesses," said Chad George, owner of a new salad bar called Salata.

George's new salad bar will open soon, and it's right next to R-Taco, a eatery that recently opened.

"I think Beaumont's going to continue to grow and expand," said George. "We've already seen in the area people supporting local businesses and how they've kind of thrived in the area.

During Tropical Storm Harvey, the city of Beaumont received 5 percent of flood water.

A lot of businesses are still trying to get back on their feet.

However, city councilwoman Victoria Jordan says the storm didn't hurt local businesses, it improved them.

"Call us the comeback kids," Jordan said. "The future is bright in Beaumont and (we) want to try and do anything to encourage growth in the area."
