The 14-year-old girl killed in a crash over the weekend in Vidor has been identified by police as Madalyn Gracie Griffin, of Mauriceville.

Madalyn was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by a 13-year-old girl when it crashed early Sunday morning around 3:19.

Vidor police were dispatched to Wexford Drive near North Main, also known as Highway 105, where the first officer found a pickup had left the roadway and hit a tree.

There was major damage on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Madalyn, who Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said Sunday was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the pickup.

The 13-year-old driver and another passenger, also 13, were taken to St. Elizabeth in serious but not life-threatening condition, according to Carroll.

While the investigation is ongoing, Carroll said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

There are counselors available at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, where Madalyn was a freshman.
