PORT ARTHUR -- The Port Arthur Memorial Titans will be able to kick off the season in their home stadium.
Thursday evening, the PAISD board of trustees voted on an emergency action item to fix the press box at the stadium.
The floor joists for the walkway to the press box had rotted out.
District officials originally said a fix would take months, and the team would play home games at Lamar University.
But thanks to the emergency item, the board voted unanimously to skip the bidding process and get workers out there as soon as possible.
The project will cost $133,000. Superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie says crews will work seven days a week to prepare the stadium for the home opener.
