Port Arthur police fill void, swear in seven officers

Port Arthur police fill void, swear in seven officers

The Port Arthur Police Department has some fresh faces after seven new officers were sworn in Tuesday afternoon, along with two officer promotions.

"This gives us some flexibility to get more boots on the ground to fill some positions," says Deputy Chief Michael Fratus with PAPD.

One of the officers sworn in is Eugene Summage, who heard of his acceptance only one day prior to the induction.

"The Past two years I've wanted to try a different career path," says Summage. "Something a little more hands-on where I can help the people and the community."

The department still has six positions left until fully staffed, but officials say they aren't worried about filling them, saying it's about quality rather than quantity.

"It's about getting the right people we need to do the job," says Fratus.

KFDM/Fox 4's Chris Mullooly has the full report.
