Storm damage leads to Jasper County disaster declaration
Developing tonight, damage from storms packing strong winds has prompted the Jasper County Judge to issue a disaster declaration.
The disaster declaration for Jasper County indicates the storm damage created an "imminent public safety hazard."
The storms rumbled across Southeast Texas Wednesday night into Thursday morning, toppling trees onto homes in Evadale and causing scattered damage and power outages in other areas.
A confirmed tornado touched down in Old Salem in Newton County but no major damage or injuries were reported.
