What many believe is to be the worst epidemic in the United States since the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80’s. Opioids are sweeping the nation and are now responsible for over half of the drug overdose deaths in the county.
Over the last four years Texas doctors have been doing their part in helping the fight against opioids prescribing twenty percent fewer opioids prescriptions in 2017 than in 2013.
According to the CDC in 2013, doctors wrote 126 prescriptions for every one-hundred people.
Keep in mind a single person might receive multiple prescriptions per year. In 2017, doctors wrote only 96 scripts for every one hundred people.Hardin and Jefferson counties saw similar decreases
