Three children killed in 4th of July apartment fire in Port Arthur
UPDATE: Investigators searching for cause of Port Arthur apartment fire that killed 2, 6 and 12 year old children. CPS says six children were living with the mother at Arthur Square Apartments. The mother had gone to a hospital prior to the fire and brought three of her other children because one was sick, according to Shari Pulliam with CPS. The children who died are Brooklynn McCray, Brayden Handy and Jayden Pollard.
Three children, ages 2, 6 and 12, are dead following an early morning apartment fire in Port Arthur.
Firefighters responded to a fire at the Arthur Square Apartments in the 1600 block of Poole Avenue just after midnight.
Firefighters rescued three children from the apartment and they were taken by EMS to the Southeast Texas Medical Center where they died, according to fire investigators, who say the 2, 6 and 12 year old children suffered smoke inhalation.
Port Arthur Fire Marshals are on scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The mother of the children had reportedly taken one of her other children to the hospital when the fire broke out.
The Port Arthur Fire Department is investigating along with Child Protective Services.
There were no firefighters injured on scene. According to the Port Arthur Fire Department, this is the largest number of fatalities related to a single fire in the city since a garage apartment fire in 2009 in the City of Port Arthur.
