Trial in case of man charged with killing victim, setting car on fire with body inside
Testimony is underway in the Jefferson County trial of a man charged with murdering a victim by shooting him and then setting his car on fire with the body inside.
Beaumont police say Seth Haynes killed 23-year-old Alex Straway early in the morning on January 14, 2017.
Investigators say Haynes told police he shot Straway and then set Straway's vehicle on fire with his body inside.
Police found Staway's body inside his burning car on McHale Street shortly before 5 a.m. January 14,
According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, after police identified Haynes as a suspect, he admitted to shooting and killing Straway, then driving his vehicle to the 3300 block of McHale Street and setting it on fire, BPD Officer Jesus Tamayo wrote in the affidavit.
If convicted of murder, Haynes faces up to life in prison.
