Two killed after tree falls onto pickup truck in Jasper County

    Two people are dead after a tree fell onto a pickup truck Tuesday night in Jasper County.

    This happened about 11:49 p.m. south of Highway 190 on FM 777 near Jasper.

    The Texas Department of Public Safety released the following information Wednesday:

    Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to and investigated a one vehicle fatality crash late Tuesday night at about 11:45 p.m. on FM 777 approximately five miles south of Jasper.
    The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2012 Ford pick-up was traveling south on FM 777 when a tree fell from the edge of the roadway and onto the vehicle.
    Both the driver and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by Jasper County Justice of the Peace Ronnie Billingsley.
    The identity of the driver and passenger is not available at this time pending notification of their next of kin.
    No additional information is available at this time.

    This marks the second and third weather related deaths KFDM/Fox 4 has confirmed in Southeast Texas since Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the Texas coastline Friday night.

    Southeast Texas felt the effects of the hurricane's outer bands.

    A woman's body was found floating in Beaumont on Tuesday. Her young daughter, suffering from hypothermia, was clinging to her mother and survived.
