Two-year-old drowns in pond

2-year-old drowns in pond in Liberty County.

What was first reported in a 911 call to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Thusday night as a missing two-year-old girl turned tragic when her body was found in a large pond about 200 yards from her grandparents' home on Highway 146 north in mid-Liberty County, according to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and first responders rushed to the scene to search for the missing child. Her grandfather found Addilyn Vandiver and pulled her from the water but she was not responsive.

According to Sheriff’s lead Investigator Travis Pierce, the child’s grandmother was babysitting their granddaughter when, according to the grandmother, the child walked out of the house while she was not looking. Deputies say when the child couldn't be located, a call was made to the Sheriff’s Office and to her parents, who were at work.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and immediately began CPR. The toddler was transported to a hospital where she died. Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Stephen Hebert conducted the inquest and ordered an autopsy. Investigator Pierce, who worked until almost midnight interviewing family members and other people living in the neighborhood, said the investigation is continuing to determine a more accurate time line and confirm other circumstances.
