Wendy Lange admits she doesn’t know much about the Internet. The Internet knows about her, though.

The Vinton woman is now going viral for a photo she posted February 22nd on Facebook.

Wendy Lange didn't realize her February 22nd Facebook post could be seen by anyone other than family and friends. Now, 25,000 strangers have shared her frustrated sentiments about winter.

“I hate Iowa,” it says. “Please buy my house.”

Lange, in sunglasses, waves in front of a sea of white snow.

"It's just too cold," Lange says of the state she moved to after marrying her husband, Bruce. Originally from Rochester, New York, Lange lived in California and Wyoming before coming to Iowa.

The couple built their home in Vinton in 2004, but have been trying to sell to find a warmer place to live.

"I don't really hate Iowa," she laughs.

However, her home has been on the market over 200 days and things are just getting colder, so she vented her frustration on Facebook.

It was a little joke intended for her son, but Wendy didn’t realize Facebook can be seen by most anyone. Her little joke has now gone farther than the frozen fields of Iowa.

"As my son likes to call and tell me, ‘Mom, do you know you've gone viral?’ Wendy laughs.

    “I said, ‘What's viral?’" she says, straight-faced.

While her photo and sentiment towards Iowa winters has been shared across the globe, unfortunately, it hasn’t allowed Wendy or her husband to get somewhere warmer.

"The real reason is health-related," she says of the desire to move.

Her doctor recommended she move due to several health issues that started about five years ago, including arthritis and a back injury that leaves her mostly in a motorized scooter. Her husband is also plagued by cold weather because of chemotherapy for stage IV cancer, which thankfully he beat, Wendy adds.

On Thursday, she learned the post had garnered 25,000 shares. She gasped, then her eyes welled up at the news.

“I am a pretty private person. I was a private person,” she says.

The couple has already found a dream home in Missouri, but aren't opposed to moving to the Southwest if that's not warm enough.

Her $170,000 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, completely handicap-accessible, hasn’t seen any takers, but maybe Internet fame will help.

"As far as my face being out there, I don't care,” she laughs. “People, just buy my house!"
